Welcome to Atlantic Institute

Rev. Dr. Jerry Stephenson
Rev. Dr. Jerry Stephenson

Rev. Dr. Stephenson came out of the closet in a newspaper article that went around the world in two hours. After fifteen years as a southern Baptist minister, he accepted who he was, as a Christian man who happens to be gay. He has been featured on The Steve Kane Show, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, Phil Donahue, Sonya Live, radio shows, and articles around the world, showing God's love, hope and grace. His message is that God loves gays and lesbians for who they've been wonderfully created.

By: Dr. Jerry Stephenson, Th.D., Ph.D.

In the past few years, radical Christians have sought to make homosexuality and the Bible it’s number one issue.  Having come out of the Fundamentalist movement as a pastor, teacher, and theologian, I feel it only right to answer their bigotry, hatred, lies, and stupidity.  One of the first questions always brought to my attention is that homosexuality is an “Abomination”. Those who pose this statement are referring to the Holiness Code found in Leviticus 18:22.  The Hebrew word for abominations is Toevah, which does not imply in its meaning anything of an evil like rape, murder, or stealing.  It also was not a moral issue but a religious one.  The word Toevah throughout Scripture referred to idol worship, pagan rites, and rituals.
